How Launch Deadlines Work, and Which Ones Are Real
Cart close, expiring replays, countdown timers. Which of these mean anything.
The three kinds
- Enforced — the cart genuinely shuts and does not reopen. Real, and worth planning around.
- Rolling — a timer that resets when you reload. Decoration.
- Structural — a live event that simply happens once, like a session with no recording. The hardest kind, because nobody is choosing to enforce it.
How to tell them apart in one minute
Reload the page. If the countdown resets, it is rolling. Check whether last year's version of the same launch reopened afterwards. And read whether the deadline is stated to affiliates as well as buyers — a vendor who tells partners to say "no replay" has committed to enforcing it.
Why enforced deadlines are useful to you
They give the decision a shape. An always-open offer gets deferred indefinitely, which is how people spend two years thinking about something and never do it.
